Shortly before 17:00-hours on New Year's Eve, north Baltimore City fire companies were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire at address 5425 Springlake Way in the Homeland neighborhood. Engine Co.43 first due from the Govans Firehouse on Chinquapin Pkwy arrived in reporting heavy fire showing from side delta of a 2-story brick single family dwelling. A few minutes later command requested a working fire followed by a special call for an additional truck company. The fire appeared to most likely start somewhere in the sun room on side D of the house, but the origin of the cause within that area is unknown and under investigation. One civilian had to be rescued from inside the house and treated by EMS. It took nearly an hour for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
