At about 12:30-hours, south side city fire companies and northern Anne Arundel County companies were dispatched for a reported dwelling fire in the 1600-block of Hazel Street in the Curtis Bay area. When the first companies arrived on scene they reported heavy fire and smoke showing from several rowhouses in the block. Command immediately requested a working fire, followed by a 2nd alarm as the fire appeared to be spreading to more adjacent houses. Unfortunately, there were several dead hydrants in the vicinity which made these operations difficult- Due to the lack of water supply and hot temperatures the fire lead to a 3 alarm turnout. It took nearly five hours for firefighters to bring the fire under control. Nearly a dozen rowhouses were wiped out by the blaze. Several firefighters and civilians were treated for minor injuries.
