Shortly before 23:30-hours, west side city fire companies were dispatched for a reported vacant dwelling fire at address 522 North Carey Street in the Sandtown-Winchester area. Engine Co.8. Truck Co.10 and Battalion Chief 3 first due from the West Lafayette Avenue Station arrived in reporting heavy fire showing through the roof of a 3-story middle of the row vacant dwelling. Command immediately requested a working fire, followed by a couple special calls later on as conditions were not improving much in the roof-lines. It took nearly four hours for firefighters to bring the fire under control.
